Description

Der größte Brunnen im Zentrum von Piazza Navona ist der Brunnen der 4 Flüsse, ein Werk Gian Lorenzo Berninis mit dem Obelisk in der Mitte. Papst Innozenz X gab 1651 den Brunnen in Auftrag. Es wird berichtet, dass Gian Lorenzo Bernini ein Modell des Brunnens in Silber, ca. 1,5 m hoch, der Schwägerin des Papstes Donna Olimpia Maidalchini schenkte, die ihrerseits den Papst Giovanni Battista Pamphilj überzeugte, den Auftrag Bernini zu übertragen.
