English: Bahrain (Feb. 13, 2003) -- Zak, a 375-pound California sea lion, leaps back into the boat after a harbor-patrol training mission. Zak is participating in the Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center’s Shallow Water Intruder Detection System (SWIDS) program. The seal has been trained to locate swimmers and other smaller objects near piers and ships as well as other objects in the water that might be considered suspicious or pose a possible threat to military forces in the area. The SWIDS program has been deployed as part of continued efforts to support missions under Operation Enduring Freedom. U.S. Navy Photograph by Photographer’s Mate 2nd Class Bob Houlihan. (RELEASED)
