Tricolored Heron (Egretta tricolor). We try to visit family each year in Florida, and the birding is a bonus. We stayed one year at a condo complex in Tarpon Springs (Mariner Cove), and had some of the best birding of the trip 5 minutes from our door. A short walk gave view of a mangrove swamp, where we saw no less than 12 ciconiiform species in one hour. I think it was this trip that made me fully dedicated to digi-scoping. The Tricolored Heron is a coastal bird, and a frenetic feedere, sometimes dashing about as if all the fish are about to leave if not caught in the next 5 seconds.
