The general considerations whichguided the companys engineers in de-signing the car along the lines to bedescribed instead of following certainfeatures laid down in the originalsteel cars were four in number, as fol-lows : The widening of the vestibuleor platform doors; complete fireproof-ing; reduction in weight, and elimina-tion of the finish used to imitate theusual wooden car.
