She was one of the leading organizers of the 2017 Women’s March and recognized that year as one of TIME’s 100 most influential people in the world. In the wake of the murder of George Floyd, Mallory inspired a generation, giving what has been called “the speech of a generation” in which she declared a “state of emergency” in the United States, urging change for the state of Black people.
