DescriptionStelling van Amsterdam the Netherlands.svg
English: "Stelling van Amsterdam" (Defence Line of Amsterdam) in the Netherlands. This is a 135-kilometre (84 mi) defence ring of fortifications, locks, dikes, ammo depots and barracks around Amsterdam. It was built by the Ministry of War between 1883 and 1920. This defensive line was never used in battle and it became obsolete after the invention of the airplane. It's included by UNESCO in the List of World Heritage Sites, 1996. Disclaimer: The exact location of the forts and inundation areas may differ from reality to a slight extent. SVG image made based on the original jpg version by Niels Bosboom.
