English: A motor inspection car at the
South Australian RailwaysIslington Workshops in the 1920s. Ten were ordered from the
Dort Motor Car Company of
Flint, Michigan, in the United States – five each for 1067 mm narrow gauge and 1600 mm broad gauge (an 11th was later ordered to replace one of them irreparably damaged in an accident). Their main role was to convey engineers and foremen to inspect railway lines but they were also used for other tasks. The flanged wheels were added (and steering mechanism removed) at Islington Workshops.
