The marriage color is used to outline the EEZ, while the lighter color is used to shade the water, because it's not land. American Samoa is colored purple because it doesn't perform marriages only recognizes them.
Reverted to version as of 05:11, 13 December 2022 (UTC) - what do you mean mismatched colors? This version is more correct because it splits Guam and CNMI, and joins the three parts of Kiribati. Filling in the EEZs makes it more legible, because the border lines of EEZs aren't always clear and continuous.
