Summary

English: Police Sergeant Thomas James Powell of the Hamilton division of the Bermuda Police Force ca. 1890. Photographed by Nicholas Lusher. Powell had previously been a soldier in the w:11th Hussars, taking part in the w:Charge of the Light Brigade during the w:Crimean War. Powell was invalided from the army after the war, following which he served in the w:Royal Navy as a bandsman on HMS Indus, then as a convict warder at the w:Royal Naval Dockyard, Bermuda. He served in the Bermuda Police force from 1864 to 1865, then was employed as a steward at the w:Royal Bermuda Yacht Club 'til rejoining the Bermuda Police Force in 1884, retiring in 1902. He die in 1911, aged 77, and was buried in Pembroke Parish.
