Deutsch: Der Königlich-Ungarische Sankt Stephans-Orden (hu: Magyar királyi Szent Istvan lovagrend), bis 1944 ranghöchster ungarischer Zivilverdienstorden, wurde von Maria Theresia als Pendant zum Militär-Maria-Theresien-Orden am 5. Mai 1764, dem Tage der Krönung ihres ältesten Sohnes Joseph II. zum Römischen König, gestiftet und unter den Schutz des Heiligen Stephan gestellt. Der vollständige Name lautet Königlich ungarischer Orden des Heiligen apostolischen Königs Stephan. Die Statuten waren vom 6. Mai 1764 datiert. Großmeister war der König von Ungarn.
