English: THE FARM ACTUALLY CONSISTS OF 3 FARMSTEADS; ESSIG FARM (19TH CENTURY), STAUDT FARM (18TH CENTURY) AND THE DUNDORE-HOTTENSTEIN FARM (MID 18TH CENTURY). MOST NOTABLE (ON THE STAUDT FARMSTEAD) IS A THREE-LEVEL LOG STRUCTURE COMBINED WITH A SPRING HOUSE, WHICH IS RELATIVELY RARE, DATING FROM ABOUT 1776 AS THE ORIGINAL HOMESTEAD, AND LATER USED AS A SPEICHER. A SPEICHER WAS USED FOR BOTH FOOD PREPARATION AND AS STORAGE TO KEEP GRAIN, MEAL, BREAD, MEAT, TOOLS AND OTHER ITEMS NOT KEPT IN THE MAIN HOUSE. IT WAS INTRODUCED BY SWISS AND MENNONITES FROM SWITZERLAND |
