Notes In 1855 the seeds of The Olympic Club were first sown in the backyard of two German immigrants, Charles and Arthur Nahl. The brothers’ enthusiasm for exercise proved contagious, and The Olympic Club was formally established in San Francisco in 1860, kicking off what would become the oldest and one of the most venerable athletic clubs in American history.
