English: Annotated map of Mars surface displayed in Lambert Azimuthal Equal-Area Projection. Geologic features including ≈250 craters are annotated. Complementary infographics encircle the map including general physical characteristics compared to Earth, martian moons details, elevation tinting scheme, internal structure, geologic terminology explanation, location in the Solar System, and size comparison with Earth and Moon.
The surface of Mars used for this map was obtained from the colorized mosaic completed by NASA AMES which warped the original Viking colorized mosaic and blended over the latest black / white Mars Digital Image Model (MDIM 2.1).
Software used for processing lambert azimuthal equal-area projection is G.Projector by NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies. Several third-party, open-source Java libraries are used in G.Projector.
The data used concerning the names comes mainly from the Gazetteer of Planetary Nomenclature from International Astronomical Union (IAU) Working Group for Planetary System Nomenclature (WGPSN)
