Kommunevåpenet er i blått en innbøyd sølv spiss som ender i et kløverblad. Det ble godkjent i 1990 og er tegnet av Einar H. Skjervold. Den blå fargen symboliserer Trondheimsfjorden. De to utvendige vikene (buktene) på hver side av figuren kan sees som kommunens to sogn. Framspringet (ut i fjorden) mellom disse to buktene kan gi assosiasjon til Amborneset, minne om en båtstavn, eller illustrere vekst, natur, skog og jord.
