Title
Jesse Ramsden. Mezzotint by J. Jones, 1790, after Robert Home.
Description
Jesse Ramsden. Mezzotint by J. Jones, 1790, after Robert Home. The original portrait by Home is in the
Royal Society. This shows Ramsden with the dividing instrument before him. In the background is the great circle made for the Palermo observatory. Although he never wore fur coats, it was added by the artist as he had worked for the Emperor of Russia. This is the only portrait of Jesse Ramsden.
