La statua fu scoperta nel 1864 presso il Teatro di Pompeo, accuratamente sepolta, e dotata dell'iscrizione «F.C.S.» (fulgor conditum summanium), che indica che essa fu "uccisa" da un fulmine che l'aveva colpita, e quindi "seppellita" in loco cerimonialmente. Si tratta di un bronzo dorato, opera romana d'influsso lisippeo del II secolo d.C.
