Purpose of use

The canalized L.A. River culvert has been used in numerous films and television shows as a location for car chases, races, the dumping of dead bodies, etc. (During most of the year the river is a trickle and the culvert is almost completely dry.) The scene from Grease is a particualrly well-known and notable example, and serves in the article to illustrate this use of the river culvert as a shooting location for films and television.
