Iván Illich sobre la "Lógica del Caracol". Iván Illich señala que «El caracol construye la delicada arquitectura de su concha añadiendo una tras otra las espiras cada vez más amplias. Después cesa bruscamente esa tarea y comienza a enroscarse esta vez en decrecimiento, ya que una sola espira más daría a la concha una dimensión 16 veces más grande, lo que en lugar de contribuir al bienestar del animal, lo sobrecargaría; y desde entonces, cualquier aumento de su productividad serviría sólo para paliar las dificultades creadas por esta ampliación de la concha, fuera de los límites fijados por su finalidad. Pasado el punto límite de la ampliación de las espiras, los problemas del sobrecrecimiento se multiplican en progresión geométrica, mientras que la capacidad biológica del caracol sólo puede, en el mejor de los casos, seguir una progresión aritmética».
