Summary

Description

Horseshoe Curve is on the main line of the Norfolk Southern Railway between Pittsburgh and Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.

The horseshoe allows trains heading west from Altoona to climb an acceptable grade of (1.85%) to reach the summit of the Allegheny Mountains.
