Franz Rudolf Frisching (1733-1807), from 1783 von Frisching (the family was ennobled in 1783), with his
Berner Laufhund. The portrait shows Franz Rudolf von Frisching in the uniform of an officer of the Bernese Huntsmen Corps (military unit). In German: Jäger Corps. This is the only known painting that shows the uniform of an officer of the Bernese Huntsmen Corps of the 18th century in all its details. The painting is regarded as one of the most beautiful and most significant portraits of a Bernese patrician. It was last seen in public when it was offered at auction with the auction house Jürg Stuker in Bern in 2008 where it was purchased by a young unknown collector as later reported in the local media. The sale of the portrait caused a lot of local attention since none of the renowned Bernese museums attempted to buy this historic significant portrait. The Museum Schloss Jegenstorf exhibits a facsimile copy of the painting.
