Afrikaans: Veer van 'n langooruil van naderby: aan die veer se voorrand (regs onder) is die kamvormige fraiing sigbaar. Dit reduseer lugturbulensie sodat geen hoorbare geruis nagelaat word nie. Die opsigtelik pelsagtige dons aan die veeroppervlak dien 'n soortgelyke doel.
Deutsch: Feder einer Waldohreule vom nahen: rechts unten sieht man den Rand der Feder mit kammförmigen Fortsätzen. Diese verwirbeln die Luft so, daß keine lauten Luftgeräusche entstehen. Eine ähnliche Funktion hat der fellartige Flaum, der auf der Oberfläche der Feder zu sehen ist.
