Description

Según su antiquísima leyenda, nunca tuvo amantes, por lo que recibió el nombre de Atenea Parthenos (Atenea virgen). La diosa de la sabiduría, las artes y la guerra. Minerva en la mitología romana En su honor se edificaron varios templos, el más famoso fue el Partenón, en la Acrópolis de Atenas, ciudad que quizá le debe su nombre, aunque no se sabe con certeza, pudo ser al revés, que la diosa tomara el nombre de la ciudad.

La escultura, de casi siete metros de altura, fue instalada en la azotea en los comienzos de 1966. Desde entonces la diosa de la guerra y también de la paz vigila toda nuestra ciudad cuyos tejados contempla impasible desde su pedestal de piedra, igual que las Ateneas de Mirón y de Fidias contemplaban la ciudad de Atenas.
