Description Picture of Glenn Ligon's neon installation Double America (2012) at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC in 2022. A large white neon artwork hangs on a wall, spelling the word "AMERICA" with the letters flipped reverse in their place. Below the first "AMERICA" is a series of light letters reflecting the top line - the second line of letters is upside down and reversed from the first line. A series of black wires hangs down from the work, connecting to a series of black electronic boxes on the gallery floor.
