Object history
Deutsch: Die ursprünglich den Truchsessen von Waldburg-Rohrdorf gehörige Stadt führte am Ende des 13. Jahrhunderts ein Siegel mit dem Wappen dieses Geschlechts. Nachdem sie 1351 an die Freiherren und späteren Grafen von Zimmern gekommen war, wurde deren Wappen - ein Löwe mit Streitaxt - in den Stadtsiegeln abgebildet. Als diese Familie 1594 ausstarb, galt ihr Wappen offenbar schon so sehr als Kennzeichnen der Stadt Meßkirch, daß es als solches alle folgenden Herrschaftswechsel überdauerte.
