Asia terminated in its southeastern point in a cape, the Cape of Cattigara. Amerigo Vespucci hoped to reach Malacca (Melaka) by sailing west across the Western (Atlantic) Ocean around the Cape of Cattigara; "Sinus Magnus" is now the Gulf of Thailand.
