English: 1879 Woodblock-print advertisement for an American production of
en:H.M.S. Pinafore, housed at the
en:Library of Congress. The Library of Congress site says that they are
en:D'Oyly Carte Opera Company productions
(see here), but that seems dubious, since Carte's name does not appear on the poster, and he would have been eager to distinguish his production (December 1879) from the many unauthorised productions. The Library of Congress does not make any additional copyright claims to its material, and, given the date, this is clearly out of copyright. Further, see below
Public domain works must be out of copyright in both the United States and in the source country of the work in order to be hosted on the Commons. If the work is not a U.S. work, the file must have an additional
copyright tag indicating the copyright status in the source country. Note: This tag should not be used for sound recordings.PD-1923Public domain in the United States//commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Circa-1879-DOyly-Carte-HMS-Pinafore-from-Library-of-Congress2.jpg
