Español: Antes de la Catedral de Toluca, existió el Convento de la Asunción de María, el cual fue construido a mediados del siglo XVI por los Franciscanos para la evangelización.
En 1867 el convento es demolido y el 12 de mayo del mismo año se coloca la primera piedra para la construcción de la actual Catedral.
El desarrollo de la obra fue lento durante casi un siglo, pero es retomado en 1951. El primer Obispo de Toluca, Mons. Arturo Vélez Martínez, logra su consagración el 11 de abril de 1978.
