| Description |
Nederlands: Negatief. In de woningen van de meer gegoede Javanen was fraai houtsnijwerk een typische karaktertrek. Hiervoor werd bij voorkeur teak (jati) gebruikt. Het ging hier om stijlen en deuren, maar ook om linnenkasten en meubels. Dit alles werd vervaardigd door Javaanse ambachtslieden, zij het dat rond 1900 veel meubelmakers Chinezen waren. Het maken van houten wagens was echter weer helemaal in Javaanse handen. Rond 1875 stond de stad Japara bekend om zijn schrijnwerkers en was veel van hun werk te zien in de welvarende nabijgelegen stad Koedoes waar veel rijke Javaanse kooplieden woonden.
