English: Celadon candle holder
  • Three Kingdoms Period (A.D. 220 - 280)
  • Excavated at Nanjing, Jiangsu Province, 1958
In the form of a crouching lion, this candle holder features a small round column in the centre to hold a candle; it is an art object designed for practical use. When buried with the dead it was believed to bring light to the tomb; it may also have been used as a water pot, or a vessel for dispelling evil.
