Damit eine sichere und nachhaltige Betäubung der Schlachttiere gewährleistet ist, muß der Aufsetzpunkt des Bolzenschussapparates richtig gewählt werden. Hierbei wird eine Stelle gewählt, bei der die Schädeldecke des Tieres möglichst dünn ist, damit der Stahlbolzen das Gehirn treffen kann und somit das Bewusstsein des Tieres ausschaltet.
