Summary

Description

A newborn baby Sea Otter, Enhydra lutris, appeared near Target Rock adjacent to Morro Rock, in Morro Bay, CA, around noon on Thursday, May 29, 2014. The mother Sea Otter, floating on her back, was constantly preening and massaging her newborn pup who was propped up on her tummy. The Sea Otter (Enhydra lutris) is a marine mammal native to the coasts of the northern and eastern North Pacific Ocean. Our colony here in Central California is one of the more robust and vibrant on the California coast. More info on sea otters can be found at en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sea_otter where several other of my Sea Otter images are published by others on Wikipedia.
