A member of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Canada and the House of Commons of Canada (representing Sherbrooke, Quebec in both houses), Galt served as Canada's first federal Finance Minister and as the country's first High Commissioner to the United Kingdom. He also founded Lethbridge, Alberta.
