English:
Isis Temple (center), a
geological formation as viewed from the
South Rim of
Grand Canyon National Park.
A view looking WNW, (flat-topped)-Shiva Temple, left, The Colonnade-terminus, right. A close-up photo of
Isis Temple peak, and the sub-prominence to its southeast, Cheops Pyramid. Isis and Cheops sit on an uplifted faulted block, with
Unkar Group basement geology units-(of 6 members, Units 1 through 4). The Isis peak of
Coconino Sandstone is upon Hermit Shale, (Supai Group)-Esplanade Sandstone, and cliffs of Redwall Limestone; upon Muav Limestone, Bright Angel Shale, (no
Tapeats Sandstone, because it was a "mountain-island" in the Tapeats Sea (a
monadnock)). The Bright Angel sits on the cliffs of the thick cliff-forming unit of Shinumo Quartzite (Unkar Group unit 4).
The photo was shot from Mather Point, adjacent to east of Yavapai Point, (Grand Canyon Village, South Rim).
