The lone remnant of the once-grand entrance arcade of Columbus, Ohio’s, Union Station, this relocated arch was designed by Daniel Burnham and now serves as a focal point of the city's Arena District. The station served as the primary transportation hub for Columbus from the late 1800s through the mid-1900s. But railroad service dwindled, and daily use of the station fell. When Amtrak was formed in 1971, daily service slipped to just one train per day. Union Station was demolished in on a Friday evening in 1979. A group of preservationists received an injunction to stop demolition before the structure was completely destroyed. This arch was the only remaining piece of the station left intact.
