Whilst working at the Basingstoke Camera and Hi-Fi Centre in 1964, I was asked to take a second hand Voilgtlander Vitesse L camera out for a test, so I headed for the railway station to check out the shutter speeds. The results proved that the camera was suffering in that respect and could not be relied upon. Here reproduced for historic value only, one of the reulting pictures.
Modified "West Country" class pacific No. 34101 "Hartland" slows past Basingstoke engine shed on its way to stop at the station with a working for Reading, Oxford and the North. Hartland will work the train as far as Oxford, where it will be replaced with a Western Region engine to be worked on.
