Elqui Province ( Spanish: Provincia de Elqui) is a province in the Chilean region of Coquimbo (IV). The provincial capital is the city of Coquimbo. [4]
According to the 2012 census by the National Statistics Institute (INE), the province spans an area of 16,895.1 km2 (6,523 sq mi) [1] and had a population of 442,999 inhabitants, giving it a population density of 21.6/km2 (56/sq mi). It is the ninth most populated province in the country. Between the 1992 and 2002 censuses, the population grew by 28.3% (80,613 persons). [1]
