Omar Hany El-Sheikh is an Egyptian professional basketball player for Pully Lausanne Foxes in the Swiss Basketball League

At 2.06 m tall, he plays Small forward and Power Forward positions. He also represented the Egyptian National team in international competition.

Early life

El-Sheikh was born in Cairo, Egypt, before moving to the United States to attend high school. He received a scholarship to attend The Knox School in Saint James, New York. El-Sheikh helped putting the Knox basketball program on the map and earned many accolades and recognition during competing as a Knox Falcon. He was included in the top 20 highschool basketball players in Long Island and received multiple D1 scholarships by the end of his senior year season. He decided to accept a scholarship to attend Fairfield University in Connecticut. [1]

College career

El-Sheikh's competed for two seasons with the Fairfield Stags. His time with stags was turbulent as he went on to miss many games during his freshman year due to eligibility issues with the NCAA, and he struggled his sophomore year with an injury that caused him to miss many games as well. Despite playing limited minutes due to the previous challenges Omar showed flashes of skill and had couple impactful games. [2] [3]

After a coaching change in Fairfield, He went on to transfer to Assumption University in Massachusetts. El-Sheikh competed for one season with the Greyhounds averaging 12 PPG and 11.2 RPG. He led the conference in rebounding and double doubles. and was 2nd nationally in rebounding and 6th in double doubles. [4]

He then decided to transfer to Arkansas State University for his final year of eligibility. With the Red Wolves, El-Sheikh averaged 11.2 PPG and 9.5 RPG (12.5 PPG and 10.3 RPG in conference play) , while leading the Sunbelt Conference in Rebounding and Double Doubles, as well as ranking 8th nationally in Division one in Total Rebounds and Top 20 in Double-Doubles. Professional career

El-Sheikh signed a to play for Pully Lausanne Foxes in the Swiss Basketball League. In his rookie year, El-Sheikh managed to lead his team in points scored and rebounds throughout the season. He finished averaging 15.1 PPG, 9.3 RPG while shooting 55% field goals. [6]
