The Mira-Bhayander Vasai-Virar Police [1] is the law enforcement agency for the combined city of Mira-Bhayander and Vasai-Virar in Maharashtra, India Commissioned on 1 October 2020. It operates under the Maharashtra Police and is responsible for maintaining law and order, as well as conducting investigations within the jurisdiction of Mira-Bhayander and Vasai-Virar. The force's motto is "Sadrakṣaṇāya Khalanigrahaṇāya," which translates to "To protect Good and to destroy the evil" in English. [2] [3] [4]

The MBVV Police is led by the Commissioner, supported by an IPS officer holding the position of Additional Director General. Each district is overseen by a Deputy Commissioner of Police with the rank of Superintendent of Police (except for jails, which are headed by Inspector Generals). At the local level, individual police stations are supervised by a Senior Police Inspector (PI) known as the Station House Officer (SHO). [5]

Appointing a Commissioner

Sadanand Date, a seasoned IPS officer from the 1990 batch, was appointed to the role of commissioner for the Mira Bhayandar Vasai Virar (MBVV) commissionerate. This appointment, sanctioned by the state government on 02nd September 2020, comes after IPS Date return to the state following a Central deputation in February, during which he remained unassigned.

Renowned for his pivotal role in quelling the terrorist attacks of November 2008,IPS Date demonstrated exceptional bravery by confronting and firing at terrorists Ajmal Kasab and his accomplice from the Malabar Hill police station. Despite sustaining injuries in the crossfire, IPS Date's valor earned him the prestigious President’s Police Medal during the 26/11 attacks.

With an illustrious career, IPS Date was been the driving force behind the state anti-terrorist squad. His professional journey includes positions as the inspector general and additional director general of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) before assuming the role of joint secretary in the law and justice department. Notably, he has previously served as the deputy commissioner of police for zone 8 in Mumbai and was later appointed as additional commissioner by the Central government. [6]

Mira-Bhayander Municipal Corporation (MBMC) allocated a two-storey building in Ram Nagar for Mira-Bhayander Vasai Virar (MBVV) police commissionerate. Mayor Jyotsna Hasnale stated that an annual rent of approximately ₹27 lakh will be levied on the state home department for the new commissioner's office, and the building will be ready for use within two weeks. Organizational Structure

The leadership of the Mira-Bhayander Vasai-Virar Police Department is entrusted to an IPS officer serving as the Police Commissioner. Functioning under the jurisdiction of the Maharashtra Police through the state home department, MBVV Police oversees the city's security divided into three police zones and two Traffic police zones. Each zone is under the supervision of a Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), and the department comprises 15 Police Stations. [8]

The Mira-Bhayander, Vasai-Virar Police Commissionerate covers the jurisdiction which comes under the Railway Stations of Western Railways which are - Mira Road, Bhayandar, Naigaon, Vasai Road, Nalla Sopara & Virar. It comprises of Two Municipal Corporation Jurisdiction of Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation & Vasai Virar City Municipal Corporation. [9]

(The Cyber Crime Police Station, operating as part of the MBVV Police, specializes in addressing computer crimes and upholding the regulations outlined in India's Information Technology Law. This includes enforcing provisions from The Information Technology Act, 2000, as well as relevant cyber crime statutes within criminal laws, such as the Indian Penal Code and the IT-Sector responsibilities outlined in the Companies Act of India. Functioning within the Crime Branch of the Criminal Investigation Department of MBVV Police, the Cyber Crime Police Station plays a crucial role in maintaining cybersecurity and addressing digital offenses.)

Singer Sonu Nigam Hands Over Prizes To Winners Of MBVV Cyber Reel Instagram Contest

At the Bharat Ratna Lata Mangeshkar auditorium in Mira Road, playback singer Padma Shri Sonu Nigam presented awards to winners of the Cyber Reel Competition organized by MBVV police on Instagram. The event emphasized cyber safety awareness, featuring 503 participants and a panel of experts evaluating entries. Winners received cash prizes and mementos, with certificates awarded to outstanding entries outside MBVV. DCP Jayant Bajbale highlighted the reels' impact on promoting cybercrime reporting. Senior Police Inspector Sujitkumar Gunjkar expressed satisfaction at the awareness success, and ₹23.13 lakh was returned to cyber fraud victims during the ceremony. [12]

MBVV cops bust drug racket, seize charas worth Rs 86.13 lakh; three held

The MBVV police's crime branch dismantled a drug peddling racket, arresting three individuals involved in dealing primarily charas. Acting on senior police officials' instructions to intensify vigilance on drug peddling, Unit 3 of the MBVV crime branch, led by Inspector Pramod Badak, seized approximately 1.1 kilos of drugs worth Rs 11 lakhs from a suspect during a routine patrol on December 1. The arrested 3 individuals. A total of 8.750 kilos of charas, valued at over Rs. 86.13 lakhs, was recovered in the operation. The suspects are remanded in police custody till December 7, with further investigations ongoing. [13]

Mumbai: 'Friend' who stole ₹74 lakh from ex-corporator's home held within 12 Hours

In less than 12 hours, the MBVV police's crime branch arrested a 46-year-old thief, identified as Sanjeev Sadanand Singh, who had broken into the house of former Congress corporator Rajeev Mehra in Mira Road. The thief, a close acquaintance of the ex-corporator, made off with over Rs.74 lakh in cash and valuables worth Rs.12,000. Mehra's house, a row house in Sheetal Nagar, was vacant during the incident. The crime branch, led by Police Inspector Avinash Kurhade, identified Singh through CCTV footage, detained him, and recovered the stolen items. Singh apparently gained access from the terrace, and the police found tools used to break open doors. The case was solved swiftly within 12 hours. [14]
