Planon is a developer and supplier of software for building management, including real estate and facilities management. [1].
Founded in 1982 as a sole proprietorship, the company had more than 1,000 employees in 2023 [2]. Based in Nijmegen, the Netherlands, it has more than 20 offices in Europe, North America and Asia. Planon’s software is used worldwide [3].
Planon was founded in 1982 by Pierre Guelen. Initially working on an IBM computer in an attic room of his home, Guelen developed a maintenance plan for Philips' Nijmegen branch. Throughout the following ten years, the company grew to become the computer-aided facility management ( CAFM) software market leader in the Netherlands with roughly 20 employees. In the late 1990s, Planon began to expand abroad. [4]
Today, in addition to its headquarters in the Netherlands, Planon now has offices in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Belgium, Germany, France, Austria, Sweden, Switzerland, Israel, India, Hong Kong, Singapore, New Zealand, and Australia.
In 2020, it was announced that the French multinational company Schneider Electric would take a minority stake in Planon [5] [6]. In 2023, Planon and SAP announced that they have formed a strategic partnership to offer integrated solutions for real estate and workplace management [7].
In May 2024, Peter Ankerstjerne (former Chief Strategy Officer) was named as the successor to Pierre Guelen as CEO, set to take over in June 2024, following the founder's 42-year tenure. [8]
Planon develops and sells integrated software such as IWMS, CMMS and CAFM systems [9] [1]. Planon’s software realizes process optimization for space and workplace management, asset and maintenance management, energy and sustainability management, and property management through sensor technology, big data and digital twins [10].
Analyst reports by Verdantix [11] [12], IDC MarketScape [13], Gartner [14] and Frost & Sullivan [15], have repeatedly rated the company as global market leader.
