Moemate is an online cloud-based, SasS model, freemium user-generated content (UGC) platform that allows users to create and interact with AI-driven digital characters. [1]. Officially launched as version 1.0 on October 16, 2023, the platform integrates various artificial intelligence technologies to enable the creation of embodied AI characters [2]
Moemate was developed by Webaverse [3] with the vision of democratizing AI technology, allowing users to create AI entities that reflect a wide array of human values and perspectives. The platform was designed to counter the centralization of AI technology, promoting an open-source approach to AI development. Work on Moemate began in March, 2023 and an early alpha was released in May as an installable application on Windows, MacOS and Linux platforms. A much more stable beta was released in July, which garnered some media attention [4]. The app then transitioned to fully web-based for the October release of v1.0, at which time the installable apps were deprecated.
The platform features a UGC AI Studio where users can create animated and responsive AI-backed characters - be they realizations of fictional characters, AI clones of real people or fully original personalities [5]. Moemate provides tools for character customization, including the choice of multiple large language models (LLMs), AI-assisted avatar generation, integration or generation of 3D avatar models and multilingual voices. It supports over 100 languages and various voice models for spoken conversations.
Moemate's AI characters are designed with long-term memory, stored locally for privacy. Characters can use skills such as screen perception and web search functionalities. The platform also includes voice cloning technology and the ability to train custom image models.
