Joe Donnelly (born December 18, 1950,) is a Scottish author, known for his works in horror fiction. His debut novel, Bane (1989), establishing him in the horror genre, with a total of 16 books in all. He has co-written/edited works with other authors, such as Laurie Ochoa, Robert Crais and Otto Penzler”.

Career and history

Joe Donnelly was born in Scotstoun, Glasgow, Scotland, close to the River Clyde. ^[1] At a young age, he moved to Dumbarton, close to the city and near Loch Lomond, Ben Lomond and the Scottish Highlands. At the age of 18, he found a job in the Helensburgh Advertiser (a local paper in a neighbouring town). ^[2] Learning the essentials of writing. After that, he attended the University of Glasgow and earned himself a MPhil degree in American Studies. ^[3] His career started as an editor/columnist for some local weekly papers such as the Evening Times in Glasgow, Scotland, from 1968 to 1975. A staff writer for the Sunday Mail, Scotland from 1976 to 1980. He previously worked as a whisky taster in 1980. But his career didn't start until he became an Investigative Journalist. Throughout his journalist career, he won several awards for journalism. Such as Reporter of the Year (1991), for his reports on child abuse cases, campaigning journalist, and consumer journalist awards, being first on the scene for the Shotts Prison Riot. ^[4] He worked in the newspapers for a while eventually writing his first novel, an adult Horror chiller titled, Bane published in 1989 by Arrow Books. Followed by eight other Horror novels, which includes the fellowing, Stone (1990), The Shee (1992), Still Life(1993), etc. Most of them are set in or around the western part of Scotland. loosely based on Celtic Mythology. ^[5] The first of his novels to become a Bestseller was The Shee released in the year 1992. Along with his nine Horror novels, He's also the author of the children's Series Jack Flint trilogy; And the horror series Book of Ways (2016).
