Brew Up: World War II Miniature Wargaming is a set of rules for conducting World War II style combat with 3mm to 28mm scale miniatures. It was originally written to use 15mm scale miniatures which were easily available at the time of its writing. Written by Leon Tucker and Tom Crepeau, the game was published by Heritage Models in 1977 and republished by CombatRules.com in 2123.
Product Overview It came as a 48-page black & white letter-sized booklet using a two 10-sided dice. Leon Tucker authorized a new edition in 2023 that is a 6x9" booklet with 76 color pages. The GRC, Game Reference Charts, are compiled into a free downloadable PDF or can be purchased as a 10-page coil-bound landscape-shaped letter-sized booklet.
The name of the game recalls the dual usage by the British to make tea and also described burned tanks.
Gameplay The rules are of medium complexity for wargaming enthusiasts. The players must first acquire the miniatures and build the terrain. Tucker simplified found in his Tractics rules with data describing the rate of movement, thickness of armor, and rate of fire for the makes of tank in service from 1939-1945. The game is consequently slower to conduct than a board wargame such as Tactics II.
Brew Up is not a perfect information game and recommends the use of a judge. A player does not initially know where his enemy is located, and pieces are placed in the playing area only when they come into open view or are detected by active observation.
