Big Thunder Mountain is an upcoming American adventure film directed by Bert and Bertie from a script by Michelle and Kieran Mulroney, based on the Big Thunder Mountain Railroad attraction, and produced by Walt Disney Pictures alongside LuckyChap Entertainment and Scott Free Productions.
Attempts to adapt the Big Thunder Mountain Railroad attraction trace back to 2013, when ABC ordered a pilot for a series adaptation starring Ryan Reynolds, but was ultimately scrapped. [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] [6]
A film adaptation of the ride entered development by August 2022, with siblings Michelle and Kieran Mulroney set to write the script for Walt Disney Pictures, with LuckyChap Entertainment and Scott Free Productions co-developing the film. [7] Directing duo Bert and Bertie were set to helm the project; the two were hired after presenting their pitch to Disney; the duo had previously established a positive relationship with the company through their work as episode directors for the Disney+ series Hawkeye (2021), with the studio impressed "from the start" with their vision for the film.
