Diego Ancalao Gavilán (born December 13, 1980, in Purén) is a Chilean and Mapuche politician. On August 20, 2021, the List of the People proclaimed him their candidate for President of Chile in the 2021 Chilean general election. [1] [2] The Electoral Service, though, rejected his candidacy on 26 August 2021 on the grounds he did not provide the required minimum number of endorsements from independent electors. [3] On August 4, 2023, he became the first person to be detained for corruption charges in connection to the Convenios case. [4]
