A congregation, in some (especially British) institutions, is a formal meeting of a university, particularly for awarding degrees, and thus, by extension, the graduation ceremony at those universities. These include the University of Cambridge, [1] Durham University, [2] the University of Birmingham, [3] the University of Warwick, [4] the University of Kent [5] and Northumbria University. [6]
At the University of Oxford, the congregation is the sovereign governing body. [7] [8]
