Indian historian L.S. Vishwanath states that before the independence of India, Chauhan Kolis had matrimonial alliances with poor and low-caste Rajputs. Because the poor Rajputs were unable to give much dowry in the marriage of their daughters, so the poor Rajputs married their Rajput girls to the rich Koli families of Chauhan, Rathore and Solanki clans, and after which the Koli caste people started claiming themselves to be Kshatriyas and were called Nava-Kshatriyas.
