Cavazos is an unincorporated community in Cameron County, Texas, United States. [1] According to the Handbook of Texas, the community had a population of 201 in 2000. It is located within the Rio Grande Valley and the Brownsville-Harlingen metropolitan area.

History

Mexican ranchers were the first to settle in the hamlet in the late 1890s. Irrigation was brought to the region around 1910, which made intensive, diverse agriculture possible. The Cavazos region contained two cemeteries, several homes, and fields in 1936. By 1955, the only things in the community were the two cemeteries and the homes. A colonia known as Villa Cavazos or Cavazos was the only thing standing at the location in 1976. There were 44 homes and 231 people living there, according to estimates at the time. The number of homes had grown to 71 by 1983, and the location included a cemetery. With 225 residents and a total area of 38 acres (15 ha), the colonia was supplied with water by the Military Water Supply Corporation in 1986. In 2000, there were 201 residents. [2]
