Definition of History

I think new visitors may be confused when the click on the "History" category on the main page. When I saw "history", I was thinking of the definition given on History. Brianjd 10:59, 2004 Nov 20 (UTC)

Some people have been posting post-modernist feminist nonsense on the category pages, which have easy access from the main page. dml 14:32, 20 Nov 2004 (UTC)
Gotono's only contribution was that "post-modernist feminist nonsense". Why would someone create an account just for that--? Brianjd 07:59, 2004 Nov 21 (UTC)

San Miguel Mission?

I couldn't help noticing that of the six articles in history, one of them was San Miguel Mission, which is neither a category, nor an article important enough to be featured as one of the six articles on history; if you are going to put that there, you might as well put every other history article.

Hi from Geography people

Hi I'm working on the portal at Category:Geography. At the moment that and this page are very similar looking but we should probably aim to sync design and layout and such. You may wish to look at that page and see if there's anything you want to incorporate. Cheers, -- komencanto 13:38, 15 July 2005 (UTC) reply

Promotion

Should the categories in Category:History by topic be promoted to Category:History. It seems silly to have to drill down an extra level, especially since Category:History is so depopulated. dml 13:48, 17 July 2005 (UTC) reply

Titlebar Problem

While purple is a pretty color for a titlebar, any links within require squinting to read correctly. The color need to be changed, at least for any titlebars with links. DryaUnda 12:48, 18 July 2005 (UTC) reply

I think the titlebar isn't very good as it is. Don't you think the more attractive layout is at Category:Geography . I think it should be changed back. -- komencanto 08:29, 19 July 2005 (UTC) reply

I think a plain grey colour would be fine. -- Der Sporkmeister 09:21, 19 July 2005 (UTC) reply

Gray it is. (actually silver) But Komencanto, it would be OK with me if you wished to revert the other top category looks, as you have a stake in this. I will find the edit history links to the previous looks and post them. Ancheta Wis 10:41, 19 July 2005 (UTC) reply

You know what would be pretty nice? If users could choose what colour they want the title bar to be. -- Der Sporkmeister 16:22, 19 July 2005 (UTC) reply

Sorry mate, I know you put a lot of effort in, but I just don't see what the benefit is of having them on a bar rather than like they are on the main page. It just looks neater and more consistent, and you don't have all of the problems with colours and being able to see what the dark coloured links are saying. -- komencanto 00:21, 20 July 2005 (UTC) reply

We have a choice. The links above show the Main Page look. It is possible to revert to the Main Page look, using the links above. When I wrote the note above, Mathematics had not yet been reverted to the Category bar with colors. Komencanto, I have no problem if you wish to revert to the Main Page look. Ancheta Wis 03:49, 20 July 2005 (UTC) reply
As an experiment, basically for consistency with the Math look, I have moved the Welcome text below the Intro sections for Culture, Life, Society, Science and Technology. You are free to revert to the looks you prefer. I put the links to the Main Page looks above, for your convenience. Ancheta Wis 11:06, 20 July 2005 (UTC) reply
It's great to work with someone who's so cooperative. I'll revert them when I've got time. We may as well make them a-- komencanto 14:04, 20 July 2005 (UTC) template. ^_^ reply

Consistancy

Over the past few days efforts have been made to 1- merge the portal pages of the 8 main-page subjects with their category pages, and 2- make them consistant with each others. Before making significant layout changes please discuss it so the 8 pages remain consistant. Elfguy 20:02, 20 July 2005 (UTC) reply

Clutter

Can we, um, clean up all the clutter -- some of just dont need to see a whole article and just want to get to the categories. - SV| t 19:11, 23 July 2005 (UTC) reply

SV, I put in a link to the categories section, but currently it is just repositioning to a div below the intro. Hope this helps for now. The history categories do appear in a separate box, so the link appears OK; The method I used seems to work for other top 8 categories. TBD and WIP for now. Ancheta Wis 18:38, 24 July 2005 (UTC) reply
SV, it seems to work in IE; my problem appears to be in Firefox only. Ancheta Wis 21:51, 25 July 2005 (UTC) reply
see note on quick navigation for the 8 categories on the Main page
  • The 8 pages with the portal and then the categories worked fine. Now this one looks all broken. Elfguy 02:12, 3 August 2005 (UTC) reply

Categorisation

Why did you make this category part of the Top 10 category but with an inicial space:

[[Category:Top 10| History]]

It doesn't look so good to me, mainly because it isn't sorted in the H block but instead, in a no initial block. jοτομικρόν | Talk 13:00, 1 April 2006 (UTC) reply

Linking with Category:Time

I suggest we make Category:Time a parent category of this one. __ meco 10:27, 23 October 2006 (UTC) reply
