This
category is for people that arrived in
colonial Western Australia and then actively settled in it for any period of time. This excludes people that merely administered, or only participated in administering, it. Therefore the time period for arrival begins on 25 April 1829 with the arrival of
HMS Challenger at
Garden Island before the declaration of the
Swan River Colony for
Britain on 2 May 1829, and ends on 15 August 1890 with Queen Victoria's assent to the Act to confer a Constitution on Western Australia through which Western Australia achieved responsible self-government. The Swan River Colony, also called Swan River Settlement, was renamed to Colony of Western Australia in 1832.
