National Memorials in the United States are designated by
Congress. Most are administered or affiliated with the
National Park Service. Some, such as the
Lincoln Memorial, do not have the word "National" in their official names.
Some privately owned memorials use "national" in their names, but have not been authorized by Congress. Such memorials should not be listed here.
As with all historic areas in the National Park System, National Memorials are automatically listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
